Meet The Doctor

Dr. Nicholas B. Bauter DDS, MSD: Orthodontist
Dr. Nicholas B. Bauter DDS, MSD: Orthodontist

Call him Dr. Nick, or Dr. B, but either way he is a bona fide kid at heart and nerd in the brain. He is battle born and raised in Carson City, NV, and his personal and educational path after graduating from Carson High in 1997 is literally all over the map and somewhat dizzying. He graduated cum laude (latin for huge geek) with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Notre Dame while serving as the fearless captain of the Notre Dame Ski Team. Dr. Nick then graduated with honors from the prestigious Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco, CA.

From there, he completed a Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Tufts University-New England Medical Center in Boston, MA, where he published an article in the Journal of the Massachussets Dental Society on a case report of a rare disease called aggressive fibromatosis treated with hemi-maxillectomy. Also, ask him about the time in the ER when he sutured some Bostonian’s ear back on while reading a “how-to” DIY manual on sewing human ears after someone else chewed it off just like Mike Tyson did to Evander Holyfield. Somehow, still alive, he then limped back to San Francisco for his residency in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at the University of the Pacific and was honored with both his masters degree and specialty certification. During his residency, Dr. Nick was heavily involved with both the Craniofacial Abnormalities and Genetics and the Stem Cell and Craniofacial Tissue Engineering Laboratories.

Next to surviving the running with the bulls in Spain, one of Dr. Nick’s most memorable experiences is when he traveled to Peru over several weeks for the treatment, diagnosis, and genetic testing of hundreds of children born with craniofacial defects such as cleft lip and palate. As a result, he has co-authored more than 20 publications in both craniofacial genetics and stem cell research. For such extreme nerdiness, he was awarded with the coveted annual Harry Sicher Research Award which recognizes only the top and best overall research submitted by all orthodontic residencies in the country and was subsequently featured as a white-coat clad centerfold in the Pacific Review, and we have proof.

Furthermore, Dr. Nick’s own clinical patient and research article on 3-dimensional superimposition imaging and analysis was featured on the cover of the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics in January 2015, a distinguished honor achieved by very few orthodontists… Exhausted yet? We are… Aside from all the serious nerdy business, he loves playing like a kid outdoors on the ski slopes, golf courses, and the alpine lakes on his paddle board. He is also a CrossFit junkie, Notre Dame/49ers/Giants fanatic, and is a jokester to the core so make sure you visit us heavily armed with your favorite dad jokes.

Meet the Team

Natalie Nelson
Natalie Nelson
Natalie Nelson: Treatment Coordinator and Chief Creative Officer

Natalie, aka Nat, aka Natty, is one of the first bright and smiley faces that will welcome you to {b} ortho. She is originally battle born and raised in Fallon, NV, and her humble yet hilarious personality shows her farm-bred upbringing. We promise you she will not only make you feel at home, but will also make you belly laugh and smile from ear to ear. She married her studly husband in 1998 and they have two beautiful children, Mekayla and Patrick. Natalie will tell you that her biggest accomplishment is being not only an awesome mother, but a best friend, to her two respectful children who are both amazing student athletes. When she is not working with the our exquisite team at {b} ortho she can be found cheering on her son during track meets or praising her daughters accomplishments at the University of Nevada. She lives by the mantra: "To give is better any day than to receive."

Amanda Eastwick
Amanda Eastwick
Office Manager and Lady Boss

Amanda, aka Lady Boss, is our brains behind the scenes of {b} ortho and is a wizard with organization, numbers, and team building shenanigans... in fact, we might as well dress her head-to-toe in bright green, put her behind the curtain, and rename our office the Land of Oz. Kidding aside, you will also see her gleaming smile and warm demeanor around the office, too, so you won't be able to miss her cheery face. She is battle born and was raised in Fallon, NV, but has resided in Reno for the last two decades. In addition to overseeing the outlandish fun and daily operations of {b} ortho, she is a specialist in commercial real estate with a focus on tenant representation and is so familiar with both Sparks and Reno that Amanda could probably drive through the side streets in her Jeep blindfolded. Her fur baby, Max, may just be the most devilishly handsome Shiba-Inu on the planet, and he loves a good chase and catch-me-if-you-can game around the golf course. In her down time, if she manages any, Amanda loves adventuring through the beauty of the Sierra's in her Jeep with Max, paddle-boarding Lake Tahoe, is an avid chef and 49ers/Giants fan, and can be found doing CrossFit in the gym at 5am when the rest of us are probably snuggled up in our beds drooling on our pillows.

Max
Max
Office Mascot

Max, aka Maxi-Poo, aka Robin, is part Shiba-Inu and part escape artist... and, oh boy, is he fast. He is always looking for his next move so don't let the Cheshire Cat grin fool you. Max hates wearing costumes but loves egg yolks, belly rubs, and riding in topless Jeeps while sniffing the fresh mountain air. When you see Max smiling at you, please PLEASE make sure you close the front door immediately behind you.

Quinn
Quinn
Office Mascot

Quinn, aka Q-Ball, aka Batman, is a Boston Terrier through and through. His life is completed with the 3 B's: balls, bacon, and basking in the sun. He is officially the oldest (in dog years) member of the {b} ortho family and his gray beard is starting to match that of his dad's. When you see Q, ask him to sit and he'll kindly put out his paw for a gentlemanly paw/hand shake, but only if you have a cookie in the other.

Every time I enter the office, I’m greeted with big smiles and friendliness from all of the employees. They truly go above and beyond to make their customers feel welcome.
